Mysuru: JD (S) candidate M J Ravi Kumar (Chinni Ravi) who represents ward number 35 has been elected as the Mayor of the city while BJP candidate Rathna Lakshman as Deputy Mayor.
Ravi representing as ward number 35 as corporator for the second consecutive term enjoys good support from senior leaders in the party including from former chief minister H D Kumarswamy. The BJP-JD(S) coalition which is in power since three years will continue for another two years.
Though JD (S) candidate K T Cheluve Gowda representing ward no 27 has served for four terms as a senior in the party was in the race for the Mayor post, JD (S) party supremo H D Devegowda decided in favour of Ravi Kumar who is having a backing from MLA Sa Ra Mahesh, MLC Marithibbe Gowda and even from former chief minister Kumaraswamy. Out of 73 valid votes, Ravi Kumar secured 42 votes.
During the Mayoral polls conducted by Regional Commissioner M V Jayanthi in Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Ravi Kumar, who was the ruling JD (S)-BJP coalition’s candidate, defeated Congress candidate J S Jagadish. Ravi Kumar secured 42 votes as against Jagadish’s 31 votes. Though the Congress approached JD (S) for a tie-up in MCC like the understanding between the two parties in BBMP, the latter preferred to continue its three-year alliance with the BJP.
In MCC, the JD(S) has 23 corporators, three members of Legislative Council and one MLA vote which makes it 27. On the other hand, the BJP has 13 corporator and one MP vote making it 14.
