Mysuru: NCERT Director has pointed that if private school teachers can fight adversities and still manage to get good result for their schools, government school teachers despite advantage fail to do so because of lack of monitoring system in place. H K Senapathy, addressing a two-day brainstorming workshop on Vision and Mission of Inter University Centre for Teacher Education organised by Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru at its premise here on Saturday said that private school teachers get lesser pay and there is no security of job, but yet they toil to get good result. Unfortunately, scenario in government schools are not the same.

“Though our national policy on education is appreciated by all, not just in India but even abroad, there is problem in implementing the same. Without strengthening teacher’s education we cannot improve the quality of school education but unfortunately our teacher’s education programs are neglected. Successful teacher’s education program, intensive research, proper monitoring and implementing of policy in true sense is need of the hour,”he said.

He also opined that, there is a need for sharing experiences and innovative ideas to improve quality of teacher education. The paradigm shift from the product to a process oriented classroom has to be a reality as per NCF 2005 and the NCERT textbooks and the Constuctivist Theory of Teaching -Learning activity have adopted this change. There needs to be an emphasis on the three competencies- Intellectual, Social, and Character among the teachers and Teacher-Educators. He stressed on a need of research to identify problems at the grassroots level, he opined.

Speaking after inaugurating the workshop Podile Appa Rao, Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad, stressed that there is a huge gap in what is required and what has been planned for Teacher Education in the country. “E-resources is the need of the hour, but what we plan today gets delayed in implementation. A research is required for problem recognition at the grassroot level. The diversity in classrooms need to be taken care of, so that teachers will remain relevant and not become redundant” added Appa Rao.

Euphrates Efosi Wose, Chief of Education, UNICEF, New Delhi, India, delivering keynote address said “IUCTE is an opportunity with responsibility to strengthen Teacher Education in the southern part of the country. Teaching profession needs supportive supervision and it is the responsibility of the people concerned to depoliticize the teaching system. Though the need of the hour is to bring in technological solutions, our objectives that we intend to attain should drive the technology that we use”. She urged that this Center, IUCTE, should play a crucial role in triggering a change that is required toenhance qualitative improvement in Teacher Education and also mentioned that during her last two years stay in India, observed that whole teaching profession is highly politised. Y Sreekanth, Principal, RIE, Mysuu briefed about objectives of IUCTE centre.
