KPL: Police detain 16 bookies in Mysuru

Mysuru: The alert city police uncovered major cricket betting racket in the ongoing Karnataka Premier League cricket match at SDNRW ground in Mysuru by detaining 16 cricket bookies of which 15 are from outside the state.

The sixth edition of KPL cricket match shifted its action from Bengaluru to Mysuru for second leg matches from September 4 to 12 during which 12 matches will be held. The third and final leg including semifinals and finals will be held at Hubballi from September 14 to 23.

On Saturday, when the match between Bellary Tuskers and Bijapur Bulls was going on, city police attached to Jayalakshmipuram Police Station based on a tip off, swung into action by detaining 16 people. All the 15 detained bookies have come from different states including Rajasthan and Haryana and were staying in private hotels. CCB has taken up the investigation. Police have also seized Rs 1.2 Lakh from the detained bookies.

It may be recalled that two years ago, in the same ground, Jayalakshmipuram Police had arrested a bookie in a similar manner.
