Mysuru: For the first time in the history of elections in Mysuru, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports in association with District Administration and SVEEP, with an intention to create more awareness about the importance of voting conducted Kabbadi tournament at Chamundi Vihar Stadium. Over more than 12 teams took part in the competition, eventually Siddalingapura ‘A’ team which proved to be better on the given day emerged as champs.
Kabbadi, a traditional and indigenous game, is also one of the most popular games in urban and rural areas. On the occasion the organizers requested all the team players to create awareness in their respective places and see that the voting percentage increases further. The players too assured to help district administration to improve voting percentage.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, K Suresh, Assistant Director, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports said “It was overwhelming response for the competition which was conducted with a motive to create awareness about voting. Apart from Kabbadi competition, we also conducted tanga rally were more than 73 tangas, including 23 sarot took part. The rally was flagged off at Chamundi Vihar stadium and concluded at Gandhi Square before passing through thorough fares of the city including Devaraj Urs road , Sayaji Rao road, Irwin road, Shivarampet and suburban bus stand”.
