Mysuru: On April 2 said that the centre’s ambitious project, Jalashakti Abhiyan will be launched in the state on April 9.
Speaking at a press conference, he said that the programme would be organised at Hubballi and this important campaign would be launched by Mahesh Sharma, Padmashri recipient water conservationist from Madhya Pradesh. Party state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Prahlad Joshi and others would participate at the event, he said.
Minister informed that post this event, every legislative assembly will launch the campaign lead by its MLAs. The campaign will be held till November 30 this year and guidelines have been issued for this purpose. In the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappaext 100 days, the deputy commissioners and ZP CEOs have been instructed to undertake water conservation works, extensively, he added.
Minister said that the development of integrated tanks, rejuvenation of tanks, rejuvenation of tanks and canals, dredging, repairs of ponds and lakes, rejuvenation of ponds near temples among others will be done. This Jalashakti Abhiyan aims at identifying the places where water can be collected before the onset of the monsoon. This campaign will help in improving groundwater level and also benefit the livestock in the future. The conservation of tanks, which is the lifeline of the farmers, will be beneficial in many ways, he observed.
Eshwarappa said that Art of Living has voluntarily taken up 30,524 water-project works under Antarjala Chetana Scheme in Cauvery basins of all taluks in the district and added that the government had reached an agreement on the issue. The art of living will fully bear the funds required for the works. He explained that 206 recharge units, 14,703 percolation pits, 304 dikes, 201 tanks development, 14,909 boulder checks, and 201 afforestation works will be taken up, he explained.
Further, the minister said that the sites for the work have already been identified and the concerned taluk panchayat executive officers have been instructed to complete the works before the monsoon.
