Mysuru: The 24-year-old local lad J Suchith who is with Mysuru Warriors since it entered the Karnataka Premier League, will be leading the Mysuru Warriors this season.

During the introduction of Mysuru Warriors team including their support staffs, Arjun Ranga, owner of Mysuru Warriors and Managing Director of Cycle Pure Agarbathies and M R Suresh, Manager of the team, announced the team and its captain for this season. “J Suchith has proven himself on various occasions and we’re proud to have him as our captain”, added Arjun Ranga. R Muralidhar, head coach of the team, said, “Suchith is very brilliant and he is having intelligent game sense supported with good experience and exposure including his stint with the Mumbai Indian IPL team. With all these qualities in him, we decided to make him the captain for this season.”

J Suchith, captain of Mysuru Warriors, said, “The Mysuru Warriors have been an integral part of my career and I’m delighted to lead this team this season. I wish to lead by example during KPL 2018. I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Arjun Ranga, and the selection committee at Mysuru Warriors, for this opportunity. We have title winners in the team. About six to seven players have already won KPL, they have experience in winning matches. There is a right balance in the team. We have to play good cricket all 40 overs and it is very important to stay calm. Till the last ball, we will fight.”

Commenting on the new team, Arjun Ranga said, “We are elated with the way the team has shaped up. We have been able to strike the right balance between youth and experience. We are extremely happy to have Venkatesh Prasad an exemplary veteran cricketer, onboard who will bring his experience and expertise, to the Mysuru Warrior’s table, as a mentor. Winning is important but how is more important. When compared to last year, the team has formed well. Last year the top order was a bit week and hence we have improved the top order batting by getting Shoaib Manager and Siddarth. Apart from this, we have experienced players including Rajoo Bhatkal, Arjun Hoysala, SP Manjunath, BN Bhareth and Prateek Jain who are capable of winning matches for their team.” The 18-member team also includes two players, Kishan Bedare and Gowtham Sagar, who were selected through a talent hunt conducted in Mysuru and Bengaluru where more than 500 players took part in the selection.

Venkatesh Prasad, Namma Mentor, Mysuru Warriors said, “Talent is good in the team. One thing we will guarantee is we will fight and compete. The facility and preparation is too good. The support and encouragement from the owner is nice. The team comprises of both experience and youth which is really a good sign. My role is to help coach Muralidhar and players if they have doubt in batting, bowling or any strategy. I come in because of my experience in KPL, IPL, NCA and Indian team. I hope to translate this experience into results with the Mysuru Warriors team, this season. With the overall talent in the team, I am sure they will do well.”

The team also introduced their support staff comprising Shyam Rao as the trainer. The team has also associated with Sri Ranga as the team physiotherapist and Mohan Das as the assistant physiotherapist. The team also brings Nandish and Athul Rao as Video Analyst, Naresh Mothla as Masseur, M R Suresh as the Team Manager, N Arun Kumar and Madhusudan R as the team coordinator for KPL 2018.

Modelled on the lines of IPL, the 20-20 tournament is organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and will witness the competition between 7 teams. Started in 2009, the Karnataka Premier League is now in its seventh edition which will commence on August 15, 2018, and will be played in Bengaluru, Hubballi and Mysuru.
