It’s official: CM to take on sitting MLA GT Devegowda in Chamundeshwari

Mysuru: Now it’s officially confirmed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will contest from only one constituency, i.e. Chamundeshwari Constituency which he won by just 257 votes in the 2006 by-elections. He is expected to start his second round of six-day campaign from Monday.

Siddaramaiah had mentioned that he may be contesting from both Chamundeshwari and Badami constituency, but on Sunday, during AICC meeting to finalise candidates for the upcoming assembly election, it was decided that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be contesting from only Chamundeshwari constituency. During the meeting, ticket for Sunil Bose, son of district in-charge minister HC Mahadevappa was not discussed and he is expected to lose ticket this election. Tickets to the other three MLAs from Mysuru city, sitting MLA Vasu from Chamaraja constituency, Tanveer Sait from NR constituency and MK Somashekar from KR constituency were also confirmed. Apart from this, during the meeting ticket to Yathindra, son of CM Siddaramaiah, who will be contesting from Varuna was also confirmed.

The Chamundeshwari constituency drew national attention in 2006, when Siddaramaiah won by just 257 votes. Once again after a gap of 12 years Siddaramaiah decided to contest from here vacating the neighboring Varuna constituency for his son Yathindra. Siddaramaiah started his political career from Chamundeshwari and has won five times in the past. Senior JD (S) leader GT Devegowda, sitting MLA from Chamundeshwari constituency is expected to give tough fight to Siddaramaiah. On Sunday, former Chief Minister HD Kumarswamy campaigned for GT Devegowda.
