Mysuru: With a sense of divide having cropped up over the Tipu Jayanthi celebration issue, Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Nagaraj has said that it is appropriate to even have statue of Tipu installed in the Parliament premises in Delhi.

Staging a solo protest against the state government by sleeping on a mat outside Railway Station, Nagaraj, on Thursday said that he was the one who had first suggested to the state government to observe Tipu Jayanthi.

“Tipu was a lad from Devanahalli near Bengaluru who grew up to be one of the most heroic heroes that the country had seen. I welcome the Government’s move to celebrate his birth anniversary,” he said.

Attacking the MPs from the state with regard to their failure to pressurise the central government to implement Kalasa-Banduri and Mekedatu projects, Nagaraj said that so far the MPs have not even staged a single stir demanding projects that can do good to the people. “The MPs from Karnataka lack responsibility. We do not know where they are,” he said. Meanwhile, he alleged that the state government, which is busy preparing for the upcoming polls has not responded to the aspirations and demands of the people.

Condemning the state government’s efforts to change the Karnataka flag, Nagaraj said that the red and yellow flag has been the identity of six crore Kannadigas and there is a need to recognise the same flag. He warned the state government of an intense stir even if minor changes are made to the state flag.
