Mysuru: The stalled multi-level parking project at Town Hall premises in Mysuru has turned into a den for a host of illegal activities, thus spoiling the beauty of Town Hall.
The project was launched on April 11, 2011 and was projected to be completed by April 2012 however, even seven years hence the multi-level parking is yet to become a reality. Besides creating hardships for motorists in the city’s’ central business area who don’t have proper space to park their vehicles, the incomplete project is also posing threat to the beauty of Mysuru. The multi-level parking being constructed over 6000 sqft area will accommodate nearly 700 cars and 500 two-wheelers.
People are upset with the authorities for their lethargic approach towards completing the project or maintaining the Town Hall premise and have raised fears about possibilities of untoward incidents if the same continues. It has also become a spot for mushrooming water-borne diseases, said the locals.
Speaking to Newskarnataka Jagadish, Commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation said, “The work is getting delayed because the case is pending before the high court regarding arbitration. Once it goes to court we can’t pressurize the contractor to complete the work or withdraw and entrust work to others. We request our lawyers to speed up the legal process. As part of time gap arrangements, we will look into safety measures including taking up the cleaning work at the premise. I will also visit the premise and try to do best.”
Stinking new toilet at Town Hall auditorium
The new toilet room, which was constructed at Town Hall building is stinking. The managerial staff at the Town Hall failed to maintain it properly. The authorities constructed the facility just a few months back. The Town Hall also lacks proper compound due to which anti-social elements have made this premises their safe abode.
