Mysuru: The Mysuru division of South Western Railway figures in the top 5 performers in terms of punctuality in the Indian Railways. With a punctuality performance percentage of 97.36 percent, the Mysuru division ranks 4th among Indian Railways and first in South Western Railway. Last year, the division ranked eighth in Indian Railway.
This performance has been achieved despite sharp increase in the maintenance of blocks of various safety activities in double fold. On an average, 126 trains are being dealt by Mysuru Division daily, including 64 passenger trains and 62 express trains. Out of the above, 70 trains originate from different terminals of Mysuru division and 56 are passing through trains. This punctuality performance was achieved through continuous monitoring, and following up on the suggestions given by passengers and incorporating them in the time table. However, while there is improvement in ranking, there has been a drop of 0.21 percent in the punctuality performance as compared to last year’s percentage of 97.57 percent, This is due to various safety maintenance activities planned across the division.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, Atul Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru division, South Western Railway said, “The percentage between us and other top three divisions is slightly lower. It is hardly 4 percent. The progress of track maintenance this year was very much high compared to last year. This year there has been lot of emphasis on track maintenance on safety activities and many trains were regulated. They have lost punctuality on account of planned block. We had permitted these trains to lose punctuality in certain cases otherwise we would have been the best.”
“When the track activities are there it will have positive impact on safety and punctuality and hope we further improve in our ranking and punctuality percentage”, added Atul Gupta.
