Mysuru: In the week since Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the “Bhrashtachari No 1” comment about former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi, several prominent members of the opposition have come out in support of the late leader and slammed PM Modi for speaking ill of the dead. Now, a leader from the Prime Minister’s own party has spoken out against the comment.

“I have a lot of respect for Modi, but even great leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee have said many good things about Rajiv Gandhi. I myself have seen him take tremendous responsibilities at a young age,” BJP leader and former MLA V Srinivasa Prasad said, on Wednesday, May 8, of the late former prime minister.

He also slammed the PM for levelling charges of corruption against the late former prime minister and said he should not have spoken in such a manner.

Speaking to ANI, the former state minister said the allegations made against Rajiv Gandhi in the Bofors scam are not acceptable. “Modi should not have spoken like that against Rajiv Gandhi. It was not necessary for him to take his name,” said the BJP leader and former MP from Chamarajanagar.

It can be recalled that at a rally in Uttar Pradesh on May 4, Prime Minister Modi had targetted AICC chief Rahul Gandhi saying, “Your father was termed ‘Mr Clean’ by his courtiers, but his life ended as ‘Bhrashtachari No 1’.”
