Mysuru: The Hotel Owners’ Association, who had offered a 50 per cent discount to first-time voters in nearly 100 hotels across the city, saw a good response to their initiative as many hotels were thronged by scores of first-time voters to avail of the discount.

It can be recalled that the Hotel Owners’ Association had come up with this initiative to encourage first-time voters to come out and cast their votes in the Lok Sabha polls held in 14 constituencies across Karnataka including Mysuru, today. They also took up the initiative to encourage their employees to go out and vote by giving them auto fare, a half-day leave and petrol allowance.

Speaking to Newskarnataka Narayanagowda, President of the Hotel Owners’ Association said, “During the last election, to encourage the voters, I had provided free masala dosa at my hotel in Vishnu Bhavan. This year, the Association requested various hotel owners to encourage first-time voters by giving them a 50 per cent discount. We received a good response to this initiative.”

He added that till around 7 PM, more than people visited various hotels across the city to avail of the discount, after casting their vote. “The elders who accompanied these first-time voters requested us to provide such discounts for senior citizens as well. We will try to provide discounts for the senior citizens during the next election, after placing this initiative before the Association,” he said.
