Mysuru: The residents of Preethi and Sai Layouts have finally got voting rights in the upcoming Mysuru City Corporation polls after the High Court upheld their rights. The layouts were recently handed over by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority to the MCC.
According to Jayanth, a resident of Preethi Layout, filed a writ petition in the High Court after learning that the names of residents of both Preethi and Sai layout did not figure in the notification released by the Corporation in December.
“Though both the above mentioned layouts were handed over by the MUDA to the corporation in 2016, we were not entitled to get any facilities from the MCC. However, the High Court had upheld our rights and now we will be casting vote on August 31. From both the layouts there are more than 350 voters and nearly 150 houses.
Jayanth further threatened to discontinue tax payment to the MUDA if they are not provided with amenities and facilities at the earliest.
“Problems of the layout are solved by the residents despite paying taxes to the MUDA. Many layouts handed over to the Corporation by the MUDA still do not have facilities that are required,” he said.
