Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav from today

Mysuru: After the overwhelming response for the Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav last year, the Industrial Extension Cottage, Government of Gujarat in association with JSS Urban Haat will be organising a “Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav 2018” for the third consecutive time at JSS Mysore Urban Haat, Hebbal Industrial Area, Mysuru from July 6 to July 15. It’s not only just Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav but the organisers have also arranged Gujarat food, Gujarat dance and free demonstration classes for those who visit the Utsav.

P G Patel, Executive Director, Index C, Government of Gujarat, said, “Compared to other states, artisans from Gujarat prefer to come to Mysuru because of the overwhelming response for their products from people of Mysuru. During the last year, the overall business in Mysuru was nearly Rs 40 Lakh. Most of the artisans did great business and hence the demand from artisans to come to Mysuru is increasing.” More than 15 artisans will also be conducting free demo classes wherein people who visit can also learn different arts craft free of cost.

“During the event, people who visit can also enjoy Special Gujarati Food. The exhibition will have food stalls selling sumptuous Gujarati food such as Thepla, Dhokla, Fafda to name a few. The Utsav will be open daily between 10 AM and 9 PM and entry will be free for the public. To attract the visitors to the expo, the artists will also be performing Gujarati traditional dance in the evening”, added R R Jadhav, Manager Class I, Index–C, Government of Gujarat. He also mentioned that the prices of each product at the Utsav would be very less when compared to outside.

Nearly 55 master artisans of Gujarat, a majority of them who have won state and national awards, are participating in the exhibition. The creative artisans will exhibit, demonstrate and sell their rich art and crafts like Bandhani (Tie & Dye), Kutchhi embroidery, handloom products, bamboo crafts, jute items, Coir Products, Agate items, Navarathri special Chania Choli, clay articles, patch work, bead work, terracotta, Warli painting, eco-friendly jewellery items and many more.

Rekha Gupta, Nasim Mallick and Kosha Sha, senior artisans from Gujarat, who are taking part in the Utsav from Gujarat mentioned that they get a good response in Mysuru which is why most of the artisans prefer to come to Mysuru.

Gujarat Handicraft Utsav will be inaugurated by Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda on July 6 at 4 PM while Tourism Minister S R Mahesh will preside. MLA S A Ramdas, B Ramu, Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, R Girish, Commissioner for Textile Development and Director of Department of Textile and Handloom, C Ranganathaiah, Director, JSS Technical Education Division, D K Lingaraju, Joint Director, District Industry Centre, Mysuru will also be present.
