Govind Singh and Akshatha win Dasara half marathon

Mysuru: Govind Singh from Ooty and A Akshatha from Davangere won the dasara half marathon race in Men’s and Women’s category respectively conducted by Dasara Sports Committee at University of Mysore athletic ground here on Sunday.

In the men’s section, Govind came out with impressive run by completing the 21km race in just 1hr: 07.09sec followed by Parveesh of Bengaluru and Nagesh Pawar who stood second and third with a timing of 1hr: 08.02sec and 1hr: 08.23sec respectively. Govind won cash prize of Rs 30,000 while Parveesh and Nagesh Pawar took home Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

In the 10kmrun, Mahakuteshwara of Badami stood first by completing 10km race with a timing of 34:15sec followed by Chetan from Mysuru and Mallesh Patil from Belgaum who stood second and third respectively. In the 3km race, SR Rahul stood first with a timing of 10:25sec followed by Hemanth HS from KR Nagar and Vishal who managed second and third place respectively.

In the women’s 21km race, A Akshatha of Davangere stood first race with a timing of 1hr:25.02 sec followed by Mamatha and Kavana who stood second and third respectively. In 6km race Swapna Patil of Bengaluru emerged as winner by completing the race with a timing of 22.41sec followed by Chaitra Devang from Mangaluru and Thippavva Sannakki from Mysuru who stood second and third respectively. In the 3km race, Malashree from Alvas stood first followed by Rashi from Kodagu and Chaitra from T Narasipur who stood second and third respectively.

“It was overwhelming response for the event. More than 3500 participants across the district and even from other places took part in the race. Many participants from rural places especially from T Narasipur and Nanjangud taluk took part in more in number” added B Srikanth who was given responsibility by dasara sports committee to organize marathon event.

Earlier, half marathon was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, while 10k and 3km was flagged off by national athlete Reena George and international basketball player Navaneetha. Deputy Commissioner D Randeep along with other officers including Satish and Harshal too took part and completed the 10 km run. All the race started at University of Mysore athletic ground and concluded at the same venue.
