Mysuru: The District In-Charge minister GT Devegowda, flagged off the arrival of the first batch, six elephants on Sunday near Veeranahosahalli Gate on September 2. After staying overnight at Aranya Bhavan these elephants will be welcomed to Mysuru Palace by district administration on September 3.
As part of Gajapayana, the arrival of dasara elephants, various cultural programs were also organized by the forest department.
Change in the venue:
The venue for Gajapayana has been shifted to the fringes of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve inviting the ire of the wildlife activists. The Gajapayana is the start of the symbolic trek of Dasara jumbos out of the woods held on Sunday at Veeranahosahalli check post gate. Five years back they changed the venue to Nagapura Haadi after the Supreme Court ordered to stop eco-tourism activities inside the tiger reserves across India.
The JDS State President H. Vishwanath has directed the Gajapayana this time from Veeranahosahalli Gate.
