Four-day All India Zoo Directors’ conference from December 18

Mysuru: The Zoo Authority of Karnataka in association with Mysuru Zoo and Central Zoo Authority will conduct the “All India Zoo Directors Conference” based on the theme “Vision 2030” in Mysuru from December 18.

In all, 31 directors from the zoos across the country are expected to take part in the four-day conference. The first two days, it will be held at Radisson Blu hotel while the next two days it will be held at Kabini. During the conference, the good practices from various zoos for conservation and breeding will be discussed.

C Ravishankar, Executive Director, Mysuru Zoo said, “Already 27 of them confirmed their participation for the conference which was earlier held in 2013 at Mysuru Zoo. It is a platform where good practices in various zoos across the country will be discussed and shared. During the four-day conference, keeping the vision 2030 in mind, we will be chalking out various plans. Apart from the directors from various zoos across the country, the experts in the field including the retired personnel have been invited to present talk on various topics.” Mallige Veeresh, Chairperson, Zoo Authority of Karnataka will inaugurate the conference on December 18 at Radisson Blu hotel at 9 AM while Kishan Singh Sugar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Bengaluru will preside over the event.

Various practices adopted in different zoos across the country which includes Green Zoo Effort-Special Management Features of the Mysuru Zoo by C Ravishankar, Executive Director, Mysuru Zoo; Evolution of Zoos-Future Road Map by Miroslav Bobek, Director, Prague Zoo, Czech Republic; Animal Nutrition in the Zoos–Case studies from Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysuru by K R Ramesh, Assistant Director, Mysuru Zoo; Zoo Education Programmes–Connecting People with Nature by B P Ravi, Member Secretary, ZAK, Mysuru; Best Practices Adopted at Mysuru Zoo by C Ravishankar, Executive Director, Mysuru Zoo; Priorities and Prospects of Zoo Management by C S Yelakki, Member, CZA, Snakes and Science–Management Issues in Captivity by S Shishupala, Professor and Chairman, Davanagere University; Conservation Breeding of Vultures–A Success Story by Vibhu Prakash, Deputy Director, BNHS/Director, VBC, Pinjore; Conservation Breeding of Mouse Deer–A Case Study at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad by Shivani Dogra, Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad; Conservation Breeding of Gaur at Mysuru Zoo by C Ravishankar, Executive Director, Mysuru Zoo and Healthcare Management of Captive Animals in Zoos by P K Malik, Senior Scientist, WII, Dehradun will be presented during the four-day conference.
