Mysuru: Eyeing the Kuruba votes in the upcoming Hunsur by-election, the BJP has invited former Mysuru MP CH Vijayashankar, who had quit to join the Congress, back into the party fold.
Vijayashankar, who had unsuccessfully contested as a Congress-JD(S) candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency, has accepted the BJP’s invitation.
On Friday, October 25 evening, he reportedly met with his supporters in Hunsur. They asked him to join the BJP as, they opined, the Congress has no future in the state.
The by-election in Hunsur has been necessitated following the resignation of former JD(S) MLA A H Vishwanath.
According to sources, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel was instrumental in getting Vijayashankar back to the party fold as he is considered to be close to all the party leaders.
