Mysuru: Sharing of the Cauvery water has been an important cause which concerns people of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with people of the two states even resorting to violence over the same. However Sadguru Jaggi Vasudeva who was in Mysuru as part of of ‘Rally for rivers’ campaign took a complete different view point at the issue mentioning that fighting over water was not the right approach rather prime importance should be given for fulfillment of water to rivers with an united approach.

The Sadguru who offered pooja in Meenakshipura here on Friday during his visit to KRS back water said that ‘Cauvery Belt Farmers Association’ should be formed to address and solve amicably Cauvery water-related issues.

Addressing the farmers here he said “River revitalisation draft policy, is almost complete and will be submitted to central government after October 2. The draft policy is being made in partnership with Tamil Nadu Agriculture University- the Second Best University in the country and in consultation with institute of Hydrology in Rurki. Plus more than 27 scientists and environmentalist are working on this. Once it is presented to government we will give the copy to all the experts, including scientists and environmentalists across the country and also to few experts in foreign countries. All of them can give their inputs and feedback to us.

“The water issue arises when the water levels gets lessened in the rive, hence prime importance should be given for fulfillment of water to rivers. If there is sufficient water in rivers, there will be no water issues between the states or people. If we want to achieve this our approach should not be to fight, but we should conserve water and unitedly with the help of experts try to sort out the issues. We are working on this line in 16 different states where there is more cultivation. To solve the water woes between two states, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, both hands should join together. If we work together water-related woes will be solved in 10 to 15 years time,” added Sadguru.

25 years back people were determined to bring river policy:

“Twenty five years back, the present chief minister of Puduchery Narayanaswamy when he was union minister in Congress government did everthing possible and they were determined to bring river policy but they didn’t get concurrence from other states. But today we have concurrence from all the 16 states which is best part of India. Kerala and Puducherry Chief Minister have given their assurance for river policy and hopefully the Chief Ministers from Karnataka and other states too will give their consent for river policy. Had we put ten percent of effort that we have put today twenty five years ago it would have done easily. But if we fail address this issue now we need to put ten times effort what we have put now. If we don’t act now the recovery period will be more than the century.

Future generation not inclined towards agriculture:

In another 25 years, people will lack agricultural knowledge. How we are going to manage food requirement in the country will be a big question. We as a country have enormous talent and experience only thing is we are not strategic in our approach to any problem” said Sadguru.

Foreigners use just 10 to 15 percent of water for the same crop we cultivate:

“One important thing is there are two fundamental aspect of the river, augmenting river flow, for which we need vegetation and to manage usage. Many countries in the world are doing the same crops with just 10 to 15 percent of water what we use hence water use technology should be adopted. Instead of canal and flood irrigation for better yield and avoid wastage of water we should get into drip irrigation. Apart from this the farmers should also grow right crop on right soil. Agriculture is not the job of illiterate, it is most vital aspect in the country it must be handled intelligently and all scientific approach and technology should be adopted” pointed Sadguru.

Overwhelming response for the rally, called upon:

“Every day we expected nearly 2 lakh messages but there has been an overwhelming response from the people as we are receiving more than 3 lakh to 4 lakh messages daily. Really rally for rivers is going great. I am glad to see Karnataka and Tamil Nadu farmers coming together” said Sadguru.

Form Cauvery Belt Farmers Association to address Cauvery issues:

Jaggi Vasudev called upon farmers leaders from both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka especially farmer’s leader Puttanaiah to form Cauvery Belt Farmers Association” so that the issues related Cauvery water can be sorted out amicably. Puttanaiah who spoke on the occasion mentioned that to address Cauvery water issues between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu state already Cauvery Kuttumbam has been formed and nine meetings held so far. Instead of thinking of how much share of Cauvery water each state should get we should think what can be done to see continuous water at Cauvery river.

Sadguru revisits memory lane:

“It’s wonderful to be here after many years, I used to camp for weeks here on the banks of Cauvery” added Sadguru during his visit to KRS back water which is located in Meenakshipura of Yelwala ZP, Mysuru Taluk.
