Forest Department needs to be more advanced technologically: Ambadi Madhav

Mysuru: “Technically we need to become more advance and we need to come out with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which will be very handy for the forest officers especially during any emergencies which includes forest fire,” said Ambadi Madhav, Chief Conservator of Forest, Mysuru circle.

Speaking during World Wildlife Day celebration on Sunday, Ambadi Madhav, Chief Conservator of Forest, Mysuru circle said “The Forest Department needs to be more advanced technologically and also needs to fill the vacancies in the department, as 40 percent of the posts are still vacant”.

“We need to come out with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which will be very handy for the forest officials especially during any emergencies which includes forest fire,” he added.

The Forest Department needs to be more equipped in order to prevent the forest fire. We need drone facilities and latest fire engines which can move faster in forest. Apart from this there should be more of ground level training. Officers should have good experience in wildlife management and should also should mingle with local people” said Ambadi Madhav.

“Standard Operating Procedures is very much the need of the hour. The procedure will really help officers to know what should be done and what should not be done during various seasons. If we have certain procedures it will really help the officers to discharge duty and take decision much faster,” added Ambadi.

He also mentioned that a meeting with senior officers will be held at the earliest to take more steps in this regard and a proposal to the government will be made to send field level staff to foreign countries to get trained in various measures to tackle forest fire.

Forest frontline workers should have strong legs: “On the lines of army personnel’s, forest officials should keep roaming in forest to know its exact ground reality. The officials should be well versed about the forest in such a way in case of emergency he should be ready to execute it immediately” added BP Ravi, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Member Secretary, Zoo Authority of Karnataka.

“Fire can’t be stopped but we can take precautionary measures through which we can contain and control damage. Forest protection conservation is not about knowledge or capacity to represent media or how you speak it is about your action and ground management,” BP Ravi, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Member Secretary, Zoo Authority of Karnataka.
