Palliative care is not just ‘end of life’ care. It is a holistic approach which focuses on physical, psychological, social, economic and spiritual needs of the patients suffering from diseases and disorders with no known cure. It is a process to improve the quality of life of such patients and their families. SVYM in association with Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Mysuru commenced the 24 x 7 institutional based palliative care services since April 2018 at PKTB campus. It is a unique model, first of its kind in the state, in which a NGO, government, academia and community have come together to provide palliative care services to people with life limiting diseases and disorders. This collaboration is creating a replicable model of palliative care service, in tandem with the state government policy that can be implemented in other districts of Karnataka.” The service is being provided free of cost.
