Mysuru: Medical emergencies can arise anytime. The scorching summer heat may turn fatal for the people involved in the election process. In an effort to provide timely medical treatment, the Election Commission will provide first aid kits at all the polling booths in the district for the first time in the state. Apart from this, in each taluk hospital, five beds have been reserved to treat any emergency during the time of election.

The first aid kit will have six different medicines including tablets for fever, cold, allergy, antiseptic band-aid and ORS packets. Apart from this, in each taluk two squads, which includes doctor and nurse have been formed to attend to emergencies. Instructions have also been given that no staff including doctors and nurses should take leave during elections. If the patient needs additional medical care, they will be shifted to the taluk hospital concerned or to any well equipped private hospital nearby.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Dr. B Basavaraj said, “As per the instructions from the government, we have proposed this measure for the well-being of the people involved in the election i.e., including those who are on election duty and those who come for voting. Though there are 2800 polling booths across the district, we have kept additional 1000 first aid kits in stock. We have also instruction from the Election Commission to promptly attend to the medical needs of the electorate and duty officers. Best possible medical care will be provided during the election.” He also mentioned that this was the first time that first aid kits were being made available at all the polling booths across the district.

About 24.93 lakh eligible voters will be voting to elect their representatives for the state Assembly at 2687 polling booths on May 12. Apart from voters, nearly 11,000 government employees will be involved in the election process.
