Feasibility committee for construction of synthetic track at UoM ground formed

Mysuru: Here is good news for sports persons. Hemantha Kumar, Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore, based on a request from the varsity’s Sports Committee Members to develop its present athletics ground (Oval ground) into synthetic track has instructed Krishnaiah, Director of Department of Physical Education to form a committee of experts to check the feasibility of the programme. Apart from this, during the meeting he also given a nod to Krishnaiah to conduct two all India inter university sports competitions for the academic year 2019-2020.

During the Sports Committee Meeting held at Department of Physical Education here on Thursday, January 31, Hemantha Kumar who headed the meeting after going through the sports achievements of the University of Mysore students both at south zone and all India inter university competition, he said, “University of Mysore is not only doing well in academics but at the same time it is also doing well in sports. For further improvement of sports, I am ready to provide any help. Not one but let us conduct two all India inter university sports competition next academic year.”

Based on a request from B D Kantharaju, member or UOMSM to enhance the cash prize for those who secure medals in the All India Inter University competition, Hemantha Kumar assured Kantharaj and other members that an enhancement of Rs 5000 in each category will be provided. At present, to those who win Gold medal in the all India university competitions, UoM gives Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 for silver medal and Rs 15,000 for bronze.

On the occasion, Krishnaiah briefed about the performance of students, money spent during 2018-19 and the plans for 2019-20. When there was a demand for proper drinking water at the University of Mysore sports pavilion, Rajanna, Registrar, UoM also appproved setting up of RO plant. Hemantha Kumar also instructed Sunil Kumar, Engineer of UoM, to find a proper place for the construction of permanent accommodations in the Department of Physical Education premise.

Sahana Shivappa, syndicate member, who is also a member of UOMSC, C Krishna, former director of Department of Physical Education, UoM, Seshanna, former principal, Department of Studies in Physical Education and Sports Sciences, UoM, Ramesh, Physical Education Director, Government College, Mandya and Sunil Kumar, Engineer UoM was also present.
