Mysuru: Farmers and residents of Nanjangud village took to blocking the National Highway-766 on Thursday, December 28, in protest of the alleged manhandling of several Himmavu villagers by the police, an incident which took place during a protest against a multinational corporation.
The protesters moved to the the Nanjangud sub-division assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Mohammed Sujeetha’s office as the blockade was inconveniencing the commuters on the highway.
The blockade was withdrawn after the ASP issued an apology for the police personnel’s misbehaviour.
Some of the protesters who were manhandled were women, and according to the protesters it felt like the police were acting as agents of the MNC.
On Wednesday, December 27, the locals staged a protest against the MNC for their non compliance with the stipulations in the land acquisition agreement regarding the offering of jobs to the locals.
