Mysuru: At last, after the completion of 1.7 km stretch at Srirangapatna Railway Station, the nine-year old double line project between Mysuru and Bengaluru is completed and the trains have started to run on both sides from Sunday.
Few days after the Commissioner of Railway Safety inspected 1.7 km railway double line work at Srirangapatna Railway Station and gave his approval to operate trains on this stretch, the railway authorities have started to run Bengaluru –Mysuru and Mysuru –Bengaluru on separate lines from November 19. Apart from this, 1.7-km stretch, the double line between Mysuru-Bengaluru is operational since November 30, 2015. The commissioning of the newly laid line will help cut down the travel time by not more than 10 minutes. The electrification between Mysuru and Bengaluru is almost completed and the trains are expected to run in few weeks time.
The link got completed after Tipu Armoury was translocated by the railway eight months ago. On March 10, railways with the help of US based Wolfe and New Delhi based PSL Engineering created a record of sort by successfully physically relocating 1000 tonne Tipu Armoury to its new place which is nearly 130-mtr away from its previous location.
The project which started in 2008 and was supposed to be completed by 2012, was not only delayed by five years but also the cost which was initially Rs 313 Crore escalated to Rs 875 Crore.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, Chandrashekar, Deputy Construction Engineer, Mysuru, SWR said, “The trains started to run on 1.7-km missing link at Srirangapatna Railway Station. On November 19 morning, the trains started to function on this line and with this the double line projects is completed.”
