Mysuru: Considering the steep increase in the number of accidents among the college going students, city police in coordination with college managements are making Driving Licence(DL)and helmets compulsory for students even to get entry into the campuses. Needless to say, those without valid driving documents and helmets will be denied entry into campuses.

Police revealed the statistical data related to accidents where 42 road accidents involving college students have been reported in the city since January 2017. Among them seven turned fatal and 19 were found driving without helmets, 7 without valid driving licence.

Vidyavardhaka College of engineering, National institute of Engineering (NIE) and ATME have already employed the said rules, revealed police sources and asked other government and private institutions to follow suit. In the event of accidents, finding the identity of the victim and details of their close relatives becomes serious problem, said police. Hence, college managements have been asked to keep tab of all students driving vehicles into campuses.

Steep increase in cases of traffic rule violations among the student community being noticed and hence cooperation from the college managements is vital to prevent road mishaps, said DCP (law and order) seeking support from college managements to prevent road mishaps.
