Mysuru: Nearly 450 out of 1,500 government school buildings have been damaged due to the heavy rains that have been lashing several taluks in the Mysuru district, according to a survey carried out by DDPI authorities.
Earlier, DDPI officials had commissioned a survey to assess the number of school buildings that had been damaged by the rains. The results of the survey have been submitted in a report to the district’s Deputy Commissioner and Zilla Panchayat members.
Later, the report will be forwarded to the state government in order to avail funds for the repair work.
Mysuru district DDPI Panduranga said, “The list of damaged school buildings was prepared by our officials a few days back and was sent to the Deputy Commissioner and Zilla Panchayat CEO. All the schools on the list have not been fully damaged, only a few rooms have been damaged. The said rooms have been locked up to ensure the safety of the students and faculty members. Alternate arrangements have been made to conduct classes.”
“The government is expected to provide Rs 2 lakhs to repair each room, so we may require over Rs 1.90 crores to repair all the school buildings on the list,” he added.
Another survey is being carried out to identify the old school buildings in the district and will be submitted to the relevant authorities in a few days.
