Mysuru: Here is good news for sportspersons, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and sports lovers. The state government is all set to recognize annual state-level Dasara sports meet and with this, the event will be either called-‘State Level Chief Minister Dasara Cup’ or ‘State Level Chief Minister Dasara Sports Meet’.
Though the sports meet was being conducted as part of Dasara by the state government over the last several years, the lack of recognition had left the participants demotivated. Several complaints were also heard about the way the event was being organised.
The participants had always said that the certificates and awards will carry more value if the event was recognised. Finally, the voice of sportspersons have been heard.
Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, Shivashankar, Commissioner, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Bengaluru said that the department is determined to meet the demand of the sportspersons.
“We will try our level best to ensure that the annual state-level Dasara sports get a further fillip in days to come. We have also got budget approval in this regard. Earlier, it was a festival event, but henceforth the event will be held in a very organised and professional manner. To start with, the event will be conducted from taluk- level and then graduate to the district, zonal and state level. The guidelines are in the final stage,” he said.
Pulikeshi Y Shettepanavar, Deputy Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore and qualified senior hockey coach said that the recognition will change a lot of things and even the athletes will take the event more seriously. “Once Dasara sport is recognized, we can expect a qualitative change in the participants as well,” he said.
It may be recalled that during last year’s sports event here, former state youth empowerment and sports minister Pramod Madhwaraj has assured that the annual Dasara sports meet will be given recognition.
