Crop loss drives farmer to end life in Hunsur

farmer suicideHunsur: A tobacco farmer committed suicide at Angattahalli in Hunsur Taluk here on Sunday, July 22.

The deceased has been identified as TS Vasantha (40).

It is gathered that Vasantha had cultivated tobacco on 3.5 acres of land by borrowing Rs 4 Lakh loan from the bank.

Unfortunately, due to the rains, his crop was destroyed after it got affected by the disease. Saddled with mounting debts with the bank for the borrowed loan, he took the extreme step by consuming pesticide in Angattahalli gate.

As locals witnessed Vasantha, who was convulsing, rushed him to the government hospital. Vasantha, without responding to the treatment, died in the hospital.
