Mysuru: An abandoned newborn baby girl, who was found infested by ants was rescued by officials of T Narasipur police, based on an information they received from a child helpline. The new born was thrown at a tank bund in Kuluburu Village of T Narasipur Taluk.
The infant was probably abandoned by her parents around 3-4 days back, said a police source adding that when found the infant's body was covered by ants. She was immediately rushed to the Kuluburu Public Health Centre where she was provided first aid after clearing all the ants from her body. Later T Narasipur Police led by Sub Inspector Anand shifted the baby to Cheluvamba Hospital for further treatment. Though out of danger, the baby has been currently kept under observation at the NICU.
Presently, the women and child welfare department officials are taking care of the kid.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, Dr Radhamani, Director (incharge) Mysuru Medical College Research and Institute said, “On Monday late night, the newborn girl baby weighing 2.4kg was brought from Kuluburu Village. Though the baby was looking fine she had abrasions over her body, and thus as a precautionary measure we have kept the baby under observation”. Surprisingly, Radha, Deputy Director, Women and Child Welfare Department was not having more details about the baby including whether it was male or female baby.
T Narasipur police have taken the incident seriously and are on look out for the irresponsible absconding parents. In order to trace the parents, the police have started verifying the records including babies which were born in recent days.
