Mysuru: A woman subjected to mental and physical torture by her husband has sought relief from police and possession of her child in a strange family related incident in Nanjangud.

Ratnamma, a resident of Udbur village was given in marriage to Aiyappa of Yechagundla village in the taluk. Her habitual alcoholic husband sold her jewels and spent the dowry amount given during marriage initially. Later, he started forcing her to befriend men unknown to her and provide money to meet his drinking needs failing which he threatened of killing her by dousing her in inflammable liquid.

Unable to bear the torture, a hapless Ratnamma returned to her parents one midnight leaving her child behind. Parents later tried their best to set right the marriage hitting the rocks through negotiations.

When all attempts failed to yield fruit, she finally complained to Nanjangud police. Ignoring it as a “family matter” between married couple, police are not keen on filing a case and are asking the couple to settle the issue among themselves.

A wailing Ratnamma and her family members have been visiting the police station repeatedly for the past two months seeking the possession of the child and protection from tippler husband, but to no avail.
