Mysuru: Columbia Asia Hospital will be conducting a day-long Columbia Asia Arthroplasty Summit, in association with the Mysore Orthopaedic Association, featuring difficult primary knee replacement surgeries performed by well-known surgeons. Skill enhancement workshops and knowledge sharing sessions will also be held alongside the summit at Columbia Asia Hospital from today.

Dr B.R. Prashanth, Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Columbia Asia Hospital, Mysuru said, “The acceptance of Joint Replacements among patients is increasing, given the benefits of these procedures. While the quality of life improves dramatically after surgery, patient expectations from the surgical procedure are also increasing. The outcome though is dependent on the precise surgical technique and principles used. The patients’ needs have been changing over the last few years. Today, it’s not just about pain relief, but the patients’ expectations regarding the durability of the implants, resumption of all daily activities and cost of surgery. All these take precedence in 2018.”

In this summit, two live surgeries will be performed by Dr B R Prashanth and Prof K S Manjunath between 8.30 AM and 9.30 AM, highlighting the challenges during difficult primary knee replacements, the protocols to be adhered to and the post-operative management of these cases in greater detail for a successful outcome. More than 100 orthopedicians are expected to take part in the summit. The event will be inaugurated by Dr Manjunath, Dean of Bengaluru Medical College Research and Institute at 9.30 AM. The summit will go on till 4 PM.

Experts at the summit include prominent names such as Prof K S Manjunath, Head of Orthopaedic Surgery, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Dr HPC Khincha, Senior Joint Replacement Surgeon, Sagar Hospital, Dr Shankar Kurpad and Dr Veera Reddy from Columbia Asia Hospitals, Bengaluru, along with faculty from Mysuru. More than 100 Orthopaedic Surgeons from Mysuru, Bengaluru and the neighbouring districts will be participating in the seminar.

The five knowledge sharing sessions at the summit will cover presentations of the case, pre-operative planning and difficult knee replacement techniques through an interactive Live Surgery, followed by didactic lectures and a discussion on advanced techniques in joint replacement surgery. The summit will address some of the most complicated orthopaedic surgical procedures with case studies.
