CM to inaugurate state level govt employees’ sports meet

Mysuru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will inaugurate three-day state level sports meet for the state government employees for both men and women at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium from January 28 to 30. Those who secured first and second place in the individual events and the winners in the group event in district level sports meet will be seen in action during the sports meet.

H K Ramu, President of Karnataka State Government Employees Association said, “Over 7000 sports persons including about 1500 women participants from across the state who are permanent state government employees are expected to take part in the event. The participants will be competing in 28 different events including Cricket, Basketball, Hockey, Football, Tennis, Volleyball, Cricket, Swimming, Carrom, Table Tennis, Wrestling, Kabbadi, Weightlifting and various athletic events. The winners in each event, apart from medals will also be given mementos. The sports meet is categorised into two categories. In men’s section it will be 45 years below and 45 years above category while in women’s section it will be 40 years above and 40 years below category.” He also mentioned that the participants could also avail official leave and TA/DA from their respective offices. Apart from more than 7000 employees to conduct the event more professionally over 350 officials will also be part of the three-day sports meet.

He also mentioned that during the inauguration of the meet at 4 PM on January 28, outstanding sports persons who excelled last year would be felicitated.

Apart from sports and athletic events, the organisers will also be conducting cultural competitions like folk songs, folk dance, classical music, Bharatanatyam and short plays at Kalamandira and Rangayana. The valedictory and prize distribution ceremonies will be held on January 30. District In-charge Minister G T Devegowda will distribute the prizes to the winners.

Chamundi Vihar Stadium getting facelift

Due to the state level sports meet, both indoor and outdoor stadiums are getting a facelift. On Friday, January 25, officials led by Ramu inspected the grounds.

The event is being organised by Karnataka State Government Employees Association jointly with District Youth Empowerment and Sports department. K Suresh, Assistant Director, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and Naganna, Secretary were also present.
