Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah doled out sites to the needy in the city through draw of lots and assured of starting 12 Indira Canteens from January 1.
Taking part in a special event to distribute the sites, the CM instructed Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) commissioner to distribute 5000 sites to the aspirants by year end.
Picking out the lots, Siddaramaiah handed over few site documents to the eligible beneficiaries on the occasion in a symbolic gesture. Around 1683 members will be given the relevant site documents by this evening, he announced.
Rabindranath Tagore (RT Nagar) layout has 2270 sites in total and all sites excluding commercial and corner sites were distributed among the beneficiaries from lower class, middle class and aged groups through draw of lots in order to prevent anomalies in distribution.
In addition, 800 sites in Lalithadri layout and other 2 extensions will be distributed later after providing basic amenities through social housing on the completion of the layout and the same will be transferred to MUDA subsequently, CM clarified.
The city will get 11-12 Indira Canteens by January 1 to provide breakfast at Rs 5/- and lunch at Rs 10/- to make state free from hunger, CM stated.
The state government will provide Universal Healthcare scheme to benefit all segments of the society and the beneficiaries (both APL and BPL card holders) will be linked to Aadhar numbers, he announced.
PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa, Urban Development and Haj Minister Roshan Baig, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait, K R Assembly segment MLA M K Somashekar, MLC Dharmasena, MUDA Chairman D Dhruvakumar, CADA Chairman H S Nanjanppa, State Exhibition Authority Chairman B Siddaraju and Zoo Authority Chairman Mallige Veeresh were present.
