Mysuru: The long-pending Career Advancement Promotion for the University of Mysore (UoM) teachers for the past many years will be given by the end of this year, said the new Vice Chancellor Hemantha Kumar. A student of the first batch of M Sc Computer Science Department, Manasagangotri, Hemantha, who was appointed as the vice chancellor of UoM recently, wants to make the varsity office paperless.

Among the 82 eligible candidates who had applied for UoM VC post, the committee zeroed in on Hemantha Kumar for his outstanding contribution in research publication and foreign exposure. This was not the first time that Hemantha Kumar had applied for this post. In fact, his chance came in the fourth time. Before applying for this post for the second time, he had also applied for KSOU and VTU VC posts.

Hemantha completed his M Sc in 1989. Though he had offers to work in defence and Infosys, Hemantha Kumar who was interested in teaching got selected for the same on a temporary basis in 1989, soon after he finished his MSC course. Later in 1998-99, the then vice-chancellor Prof. S N Hegde appointed him as a reader. In 2007, another VC Shashidar Prasad appointed him as a professor. Since then, whatever responsibility was given to him, he took up positively. Under his administration, he had undertaken integral research projects worth Rs 150 Crore. He wants to complete the recruitment of both teaching and non-teaching posts by March or April next year.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Hemantha Kumar said, “Many teachers in UoM are due for promotion under the Career Advancement Promotion which is due for them for the past three to four years. There are nearly 75 teachers who are yet to get a promotion under Career Advancement Promotion. This will be completed by December this year. Simultaneously, I will also take steps for recruitment of both teaching and non-teaching posts. I will get all the details and with the help of government, will chalk out various reservations including the one for Hyderabad Karnataka candidates. Once this process is completed at the earliest, we will call for advertisement and by March or April next year, we want to complete the recruitment process so that it will help us when NAAC visits the University.”

Paperless office

“Already 10 percent of the university administration is being done via computer. To make UoM e-governing, already we have formed an e-governance team and in a phased manner, the work is getting done. The most important thing is, the staff need to be trained first. We will take up the training at the earliest. In every department, 10 people will be selected and given a 15-day training who in turn will impart the same to their respective staff members. Making the office paperless will facilitate giving approval possible from anywhere online”, added Hemantha.
