Mysuru: The Members of Parliament of Chamarajanagar Dhruvanarayan and Mysuru-Kodagu Pratap Simha called upon the officials concerned to blacklist the insurance companies who are delaying the compensation to farmers.

Addressing the bank and district officials during a District Level Review Committee meeting on the performance of the banks for the quarter that ended in March 2018 at Zilla Panchayat Auditorium, he said, “The department heads, instead of depositing government money in private banks who failed to consider public schemes should start doing so in government or public sector banks. They are taking government money and enjoying and not providing any help in return. The bank authorities should reach the target set by the state and central governments in implementing their programmes. To implement the programmes, the officers should adopt financial discipline and service motive in their work. The banks should fix a separate time to hear the grievances of the farmers.” He directed ZP CEO P Shivashankar to initiate action against such banks which failed to provide loans to farmers.

‘Farmers who lost crops in 2016 yet to get the insurance money’

During the meeting, the officials also brought to the elected representatives’ notice that some of the insurance companies were yet to pay the money against the crop loss which occurred in 2016. Pratap Simha who was very upset with the insurance companies’ delay, called upon the authorities to blacklist such insurance companies and come out with alternate plans to provide compensation to the farmers who are yet to be paid even after two years of their crop loss. He also took the bank and district officials to task regarding insufficient enrolments for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. “When Bijpaur district can get highest enrolment whats the problem in Mysuru?”, questioned Pratap Simha. The officials including K N Shivalaingaiah, Lead Bank Manager, reacting to Pratap Simha said that the reason for lack of enrolment for the scheme is due to lack of notification of crops in the scheme. He also advised the authorities to come out with helpline to increase enrolments for MUDRA scheme.

Meanwhile, said the RBI had directed to open a bank ATM counter in every gram panchayat headquarter and assured that the same would be opened this year. Shivalingaiah also mentioned that after Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru was the second district in the state to successfully implement Stand Up India programme. The district had already sanctioned Rs 36.75 Crore for nearly 150 beneficiaries. Apart from this, across the district, there are nearly 21300 MUDRA beneficiaries for which Rs 422 Crore have been distributed.

‘Respect those who come to bank

“It has come to light that many people who go for loans in banks especially in rural areas, are discouraged and disrespected by the bank staff. Some of the banks were also found misleading the people that MUDRA scheme is closed. It is the responsibility of bank branch managers to see that those who come to bank are treated well and proper guidance is provided to them. If any bank official is not providing proper information and posing a lot of problems, one can give a complaint to Lead Bank or bank controlling officer”, said Pratap Simha. He also mentioned that to create awareness among people about the various government schemes, an awareness programme on the lines of job mela, would be conducted shortly.

‘Don’t trouble students while providing educational loan’

“There are lot of complaints from students and their parents that they are discouraged and put into a lot of harassment by bank officials for getting educational loan. This is the admission time. Don’t harass the people by telling them to visit bank repeatedly. If parents are having any problem with regarding repayment of loans, their children should not be put into trouble”, added Dhruvanarayan.
