Mysuru: The number of corona infections is increasing day by day and incidents of some infected people dying without oxygen have been reported now and then. In this background, it is a tragedy that some people are indulging in the black market selling medical oxygen cylinders with greed to make some extra money.
Only two days ago, 12 oxygen cylinders sold in the black market were seized in Chamarajanagar district. Now it has come to light that the racket has seen an increase in Mysuru as well, with Vidyaranyapura police arresting an accused who was trying to illegally sell oxygen cylinders for more money without any legal documents.
The arrested has been identified as Madhukumar (37), a resident of Hosakote village in Nanjangud taluk. He is said to have been involved in a racket selling oxygen cylinders at high prices. He was already lurking to sell oxygen cylinders in black on realising that there was a lot of demand for oxygen cylinders in the district and neighbouring districts.
On a reliable tip-off, Mysuru city CCB police and officials of the Drug Control Department conducted a joint operation and arrested Madhukumar, who was carrying a jumbo (D type) medical oxygen cylinder loaded with oxygen to be sold illegally in front of the petrol bunk at the junction of Mysuru-Nanjangud main road and ring road in JP Nagar. The police have seized the medical oxygen cylinder filled with oxygen in his possession and a case has been registered at Vidyaranyapuram police station with necessary further action taken.
