BJP workers go berserk as Yeddyurappa withdraws Vijayendra from Varuna

Mysuru: After B S Yeddyurappa’s announcement on withdrawing the ticket to his son to contest from Varuna constituency, the frenzied supporters of Vijayendra went on a strike. Vijayendra was touring the segment for the past 15 days and was getting ready to file his nomination papers before his father took a U-turn.

During the meeting at Nanjangud, senior BJP leaders including B Sreeramulu and V Srinivasa Prasad, asked the activists to work for Vijayendra. The BJP chief ministerial candidate Yeddyurappa, who spoke at the end pf the meeting, had everyone surprised by announcing that Vijayendra would not be contesting from Varuna constituency. Soon after, the upset followers of Vijayendra went berserk. They staged a flash protest and demanded Yeddyurappa to give ticket to Vijayendra. The meeting came to a grinding halt and the protesters vented out their anger by throwing the chairs and other equipment.

Later, the party workers staged a protest in front of the President Hotel, where Yeddyurappa was staying. They even took former MLA S A Ramadas to task.

When the situation went out of control, Police Commissioner Dr. Subramanyeswara Rao ordered the police personnel to use lathis to disperse the crowd. Only after lathi-charge the crowd was dispersed.
