Mysuru: Kamahalli, a small town in chief minister’s home constituency turned tense after group clashes erupted on November 27.
The trouble began when a Lingayat community BJP leaders – Mariswami, Mallanna, Kashipathy – objected to Kuruba youth making lighting arrangements in front of his house. The Kuruba youth were installing serial lights to celebrate Kanaka Jayanthi in the village.
Clashes erupted soon between the two communities, resulting in fist fights and stone pelting incidents. Few two-wheelers, cars and tiled houses were damaged in the incident.
Police from Nanjangud station rushed to the trouble-torn village immediately and managed to diffuse the situation. They have taken 10 members of each community into preventive custody. The situation in the town remained tense with 50 policemen manning the village to prevent further untoward incidents.
Security has been beefed up in the area in view of chief minister’s visit to his native village Siddaramanahundi in Varuna constituency. CM is likely to take part in the wedding ceremony of his nephew. He is also expected to hold a meeting with few prominent leaders from the constituency during the visit.
