Mysuru: The battery operated vehicles will be introduced at the University of Mysore’s PG campus of Manasagangotri.

After city buses were stopped from plying inside the university campus which is spread over 700 acres, people, especially the aged, were finding it difficult to reach various departments. Seeing the plight of people, G Hemanth Kumar, Vice Chancellor of UoM has decided to have operated three battery operated vehicles inside Manasagangotri PG campus.

To avoid public vehicles inside the university campus and also as part of eco-friendly initiative, and security measures, university authorities came up with the decision to stop public buses inside the campus. KSRTC used to operate bus numbers 130, 129 and 135 and give stoppage near round canteen. This was of great help for students, staff members and general public. But for the last three years, buses have stopped operating through the campus causing inconvenience to everyone.

The students and the public have been demanding with the university authorities to reintroduce the buses which were operating earlier.

Citing issues from students and also their parents, Hemanth Kumar has decided to launch three eco-friendly battery operated vehicles in the campus. These vehicles will be stationed at the three main entrances-opposite Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Kuvempu Statue entrance and near Senate Bhavan.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Hemanth Kumar said, “The University of Mysore’s Manasagangotri campus is a big campus. For the convenience of the aged people and parents of our students we have come out with this initiative. If we operate bigger vehicles the environment gets polluted. Hence we have decided to operate eco-friendly electrical vehicles.”

Madan Mohan, who is pursuing second year MBA at Rani Bahadur Institute, UoM said, “It’s really a very good initiative on the part of the university authorities. After city buses were suspended, many students and also aged people were finding it difficult to reach the departments. Now if these proposed battery operated vehicles are introduced, it will be sigh of relief for not only students but also the general public.”
