Mysuru: The University of Mysore (UoM) got the third acting vice chancellor in succession on November 23 with a regular VC still eluding the century old centre of higher learning.

C Basavaraju, Dean, Law Faculty, on Thursday assumed charge as the acting vice chancellor with the incumbent Prof. Dayananda Mane attaining superannuation. Prof. Mane handed over charge to his successor by offering a flower bouquet.

Prof. Basavaraju is the third acting VC appointed within this year after Prof. K S Rangappa demitted office in January. Before Prof. Mane, Prof. Yashwanth Dongre had served as the acting VC.

State Governor, who is also chancellor of the university, consented Basavaraju’s appointment as acting VC. Accordingly, secretary to the department of higher education issued official orders of appointment.

The undue delay in appointing a regular VC to the university has triggered a fresh debate here with a few other state universities also being run by acting VCs.

UoM registrar Bharati was present on the occasion.
