Mysuru: The Raja Marga project, aimed at beautifying the city of Mysuru, has now turned into an eyesore. As a part of the project, balustrades were constructed in order to separate the road from the footpath near the Mysuru Palace. However, many of these balustrades are now broken and damaged at several spots, especially those placed along the route of the Mysuru Dasara procession.
In order to make the Raja Marga (a 5-km stretch used for the Dasara procession) more attractive, the Mysuru City Corporation had placed attractive balustrades on either side of the road. The actions of a few miscreants, however, have left the balustrades damaged and as a result, makes the road look even more awkward.
When this was brought to his notice, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde said, “Some part of Sayaji Rao road balustrades are damaged. Going by the extent of the damage, it seems that it may be due to the poor quality of work undertaken by the contractor and public nuisance as well. Some of these balustrades are so delicate that it falls if you just push it. The contractor who took up the work has gone to court. Through the contractor, we will try to set it right at the earliest.”
The damaged balustrades not only line Sayaji Rao Road, but are also present along the KR Circle Road and other roads used for the procession.
