Mysuru: The countdown for the world famous 408th Mysuru Dasara celebration has begun. The Mysuru Dasara is said to be celebrated under the guidance of Raja Purohit (head priest of the royal family). As the Mysuru Wadiyar’s are known for their immense devotion and rituals bound with principles, date and time are given utmost prominence. Accordingly, this year, on Wednesday, October 10, the inaugural time is said to be between 7.05 and 7.35 AM, Tula Lagnam.
Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murthy will inaugurate the Mysuru Dasara, by showering flower petals on the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari.
In the stage programme, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and several other cabinet ministers will be present.
The programme will be presided over by the District In-Charge Minister G T Devegowda.
Vijayadashami procession
The concluding day of Mysuru Dasara, Vijayadashami, which will be celebrated on October 19, will be a witness of the internationally famous “Jambu Savari” (Goddess Chamundeshwari taken on a grand procession in a golden mantap over an elephant). This programme will be conducted between 2.30 PM to 3.16 PM, in Kumbha Lagnam.
CM HDK will offer pooja to the Nandi Dhwaja (folk dance form dedicated to Lord Shiva), and then enter the palace premises to shower flower petals over the Jambu Savari, which marks the start of the Mysuru Dasara procession.
Mysuru Scion Yaduveer Krishna Dutta Chamaraja Wadiyar will be invited as a guest.
In the evening, as the procession concludes at the Bannimantap, a spectacular array of programmes including bike stunts by the police and paramilitary, cultural art forms and many more will be on display.
The programme will be inaugurated by the Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala.
For nine days, across the city, various cultural programmes have been organized.
