Mysuru: International badminton players Ashwini Ponnappa and Deepa Malik who won silver medal in shot put event in the Rio Paralympic to inaugurate state level Dasara
Before the inauguration of the event, sports torch light will be flagged off atop Chamundi Hill on October 1 at 11.40am by Ashwini Ponnappa in the presence of CM Siddaramaiah. The torch will be paraded in the thorough fares of city before culminating at Chamundi Vihar Stadium at 3.30pm.
Ravi D Channanavar, Superintendent of Police who is Dasara Deputy Special Officer said the participants will be seen taking part in 22 different events including gymnastics, volleyball, kabaddi, hockey, kho kho, badminton singles and doubles, basketball, hand ball, table tennis singles and doubles, tennis singles and doubles, football, ball badminton, swimming, throw ball, net ball, chess, blinds’ chess, body building, adventure sports, half marathon and cyclothan.
“For this whole event we will be spending nearly Rs 70 lakh to Rs 80 lakh. The valedictory of state level dasara sports meet will be held onOctober 4 at 3.30pm. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait, Fisheries and Sports Minister Pramod Madhwaraj and District and PWD Minister HC Mahadevappa will be present,” he said.
Adventure sports will be held from October 1 to 11 while Cyclothon will be held on October 9. The cyclothon event will be flagged off by district minister HC Mahadevappa at 7am. Sports Minister Pramod Madhwaraj will be chief guest. Over 300 participants are expected to take part in the event. On October 2, half marathon will be held. The event will be flagged off at Chamundi Vihar Stadium by former Indian cricket player Javagal Srinath at 6.30am.
All India invitational events cancelled
Though Dasara Executive Committee initially proposed to conduct All India Invitational Kabaddi, Badminton and Kho-Kho event, due to ongoing Cauvery water agitation and water crisis across the district, district administration cancelled all these three events. Apart from this Karate and arm wrestling is also cancelled this year.
