Mysuru: Mysuru: Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, who was unwell did not cancel his plans of visiting Manjunathapura, a Dalit dominated colony, on Wednesday. A visibly ill seer, perched on a wheelchair visited the colony, which was earlier called Ashram Colony. This was his second visit to the colony.
During his visit to Manjunathapura, Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji took out padayatra on the wheelchair and also visited house of dalit family Rachamma and Choudappa. Rachamma, who is battling cancer and her husband Choudappa, a heart patient beamed a smile and welcomed the seer, who inquired about their health and also promised to do his best to help them.
Wednesday was nothing short of festivity for the residents of Manjunathapura. Women cleaned the streets and drew beautiful and colourful rangolis at the doorsteps of their houses to welcome their beloved seer from the Ashtamutt of Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi.
“We are delighted and extremely happy to see Swamiji. This is the second time that Pejwar Swamiji is visiting Manjunathapura. We are blessed,” said Mudamma, a resident of the colony.
Pejawar seer said that it has been a practice over the last several years for him to visit the Dalit houses during ‘Chathurmasa’. “It is my own way of bringing in equality. It is unfortunate that even today caste-based discrimination is a reality. Our aim is to get the Dalits into the mainstream of the society,” he said.
