AIISH Graduation Day held

Mysuru: The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru, the premiere institute in southeast Asia in the field of communication disorders conducted its Graduation Day at its seminar hall in Knowledge Park, Naimisham campus here on Saturday, December 15.

Delivering the Graduation Day address, T D Kemparaju, Vice Chancellor of Bangalore North University mentioned that the quality of health mainly depends on the quality of healthcare professionals. “Health is a nation building strategy. The graduates and the scholars who will be receiving degrees, awards and prizes today are nation’s investment capital for building a better future. The asset of India is the young population”, he said. He urged the young graduates from AIISH to contribute in making the nation’s dream “Health for all” a reality.

“India needs a comprehensive, implementable, inclusive Universal Health Coverage policy led by the government as the foundation for continuing national development. He stressed that the outgoing graduates from AIISH should focus on humanitarian considerations while treating their patients”, he added. J Shashidhara Prasad, former vice chancellor, Mysore University, presented the gold medals for academic excellence. R Rangasayee, Chair-Audiology Committee, International Association of Logopedic and Phoniatrics led the graduates to take their oath. Prof. M Pushpavathi, Director, AIISH presided.

J Shashidhara Prasad, former vice chancellor, University of Mysore, urged that the students graduating from AIISH must feel proud of the fact that they are passing out of the best institution in the country. “They have been imparted professional training in addressing the problems related to communication disorders so that they can help the country by providing the much needed globally competitive, ethically sound human resource. The AIISH should try to get the status of an independent university”, he said.

R. Rangasayee said, “What is expected of the graduates is to cope with work demand in the outside world, that may vary between systems, in an evolving multidisciplinary framework, utilising the resources by way of knowledge, skill and networking that they may be carried from here, to begin with.” He advised the students to focus on Translational Research to reach the unreached, as even known interventional measures are not reaching people, leave alone newer developments. He added that the students can make change in peoples’ lives through systematic practice of Science compassionately, ethically and lawfully.

Prof. M Pushpavathi, in her presidential address, reminded the students that they were going out to serve in an unprotected world. She wished that the students should serve as the ambassadors of the institute wherever they are. They should blend their thought process with the theoretical and clinical knowledge acquired from the institute to transform themselves to good professionals. She mentioned that the training in AIISH had given them the basic platform to excel in their professional work.

Ajish K Abraham, co-ordinator of the programme, welcomed the gathering. He mentioned that the certificates were awarded to 100 outgoing graduates, post-graduate and doctoral students in the field of speech and hearing. Eight students received their gold medals for their outstanding academic excellence.

Rakshith S-Dr. Vijayalakshmi Basavaraj Gold Medal for securing the highest marks in all semesters in M Sc (Audiology); Priyadharshini V -Jayalakshamma-Gold Medal and FRIENDS United Organisation Endowment cash prize for securing first rank in M Sc (Speech Language Pathology); Priyadharshini V also received Dr. R Sundar Gold Medal for scoring the highest marks in the course of Speech Language Processing of M Sc (Speech Language Pathology); Priyadharshini V and Eliza Baby-T V Alamelu Gold Medal for scoring highest marks in the course Speech Production of under M Sc (Speech Language Pathology); Priyanka-Abhilasha Award for Best Student Clinician in M Sc (Speech Language Pathology); Shezeen Abdul Gafoor and Varsha M Athreya-R Sumithramma and R K Rajagopala Gold Medal for Best Student Clinician in M Sc (Audiology) and Shradha M-Venkatesh Murthy gold medal for first rank in B Sc (Speech & Hearing).
