70,000 people participate in International Day of Yoga celebration in Mysuru

Mysuru: Palace city Mysuru celebrated the International Day of Yoga with grandeur today, June 21. The programme was held at the racecourse grounds which witnessed a gathering of more than 70,000 people, including children and senior citizens.

Some yoga experts celebrated the day by demonstrating Yoga asanas at the foot of the Chamundi hills.

Inaugurating the event by beating a drum, minister G T Devegowda said that every family should make it a habit to practice yoga in their homes and the government should take appropriate steps to make yoga compulsory in various educational institutions.

Everyone should practice yoga to lead a healthy life, leading to a healthy society, the minister added.

Shri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swamiji, Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, Janab Mohammed Usman Sharief Sab, minister Sa Ra Mahesh, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, MLAs Ramdas, Dr Yathindra Siddaramayya, L Nagendra, DC Abhiram G Shankar, District Police Commissioner Balakrishna and other officers participated in the yoga day celebrations and demonstrated yoga asanas on stage.

The programme was concluded with an oath administered by DC Abhiram G Shankar. The Yoga Day was conducted under strict police security to avoid any disturbances or unforeseen incidents. Volunteers were present at the venue to assist the participants.
