Mysuru: Following the Mysuru court order, 58 right wing activists – who were arrested ahead of a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Sunday, in Hunsur town Mysuru district – were released on late on Monday night, December 4.
On Sunday, December 3 police had arrested Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha, for violating the route during the Hanuman Jayanthi celebration in Hunsur. Simha’s supporters protested against the arrest. The police had to resort to using lathi-charge in order to restore law and order, and arrested the agitators.
On December 3, after the arrest of Prathap Simha, the BJP had called for a bandh in Hunsur. But, the police released Simha from custody after a mere 13 hours following which, the BJP withdrew their call for a bandh. The Udupi MP, Shobha Karandlaje, criticized the state government for arresting Simha and demanded that the arrested activists be released.
As per the Hunsur court’s order, the 58 BJP activists were released from the Hunsur jail at around 11.00 pm.
