Mysuru: A total of 165 liquor outlets in the district face closure in the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s order to stay clear of national and state highways by 500 meters and 220 meters in rural areas.
Most of the outlets are populated in and around Nanjangud town with 3 highways passing through the area and others on Periyapatna state highway. Excise inspectors started enforcing the apex court order and sealing outlets this morning.
Only 6 outlets out of a total 165 facing closure in the district have already been shifted to new locations. With no reprieve in sight from the Supreme Court the rest have to either follow suit or face permanent closure.
Deputy Commissioner of Excise Jagadish Naik said the ones violating the apex court order would face severe action.
The decision on denitrifying certain roads in corporation and municipal limits is likely to be taken up on Monday, July 3.
