10,000 kgs of banned plastic seized

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation officials led by Commissioner G Jagadeesh have resumed their crackdown against the sale of plastic that has been banned by the state government. On March 3, during random check-up at Old Santhepete, the corporation officials seized more than 13,000 kgs of banned plastics and few straws at Sathyanarayana Trader Godown in Old Santhepete which is the highest seizure in the history of Mysuru City Corporation.

Mythri, Environmental Engineer, Mysuru City Corporation who was also part of the raid asserting the same said, “The Pollution Control Board’s officials conducted the inquest. Those who were penalised during our last raids were not found selling the banned plastics but during this raid it’s a new face. We will take stringent action against the trade owner including cancellation of trade license. We have seized the banned plastics materials stocked in the godown and sealed the premise. We will also initiate criminal case against the trade owner.” She also mentioned that the seized plastic bags will be used for making roads.

“Due to Swacch Bharat related activities we couldn’t take up raids but in days to come, under instruction from our commissioner, more such raids will be taken up and stringent action initiated against those found violating the rule. Environmental Engineer Madhukar and PCB officers were also part of the raid”, added Mythri.
